How NAVER passport verification works
The exact button location can differ by app version and service. In practice, start the booking or order you actually want; when NAVER requests identity verification, choose the foreign-passport route if it appears.
Create or sign in to your NAVER account. Enter your legal name and date of birth exactly as they appear on the passport you will use.
Open the eligible booking or order. In NAVER Map, find the venue and tap the booking or order option shown on its place page.

1. Your account details do not match the passport
Spacing, a missing middle name, reversed name order, or a different date format can cause a mismatch. Use the legal identity details requested by NAVER, not a nickname. If your existing account was created with inconsistent information, NAVER customer support may be safer than opening multiple new IDs.
2. The camera cannot read the document
Use the original passport on a flat, dark surface. Avoid glare across the photo page, keep all edges visible, and move to bright indirect light. Enable camera permission for the NAVER app or browser before starting again.
3. The service is not yet in the supported flow
NAVER says support is expanding in phases. A Book button on a place page does not prove that the entire path—identity, deposit, and confirmation—accepts foreign users. Screens can also differ between NAVER Map, the main NAVER app, and a mobile web page.
4. Verification worked, but payment did not
A verified identity does not turn every foreign Visa or Mastercard into a Korean card. The venue or payment processor may still limit card type, billing address, or deposit method. Look for a pay-at-venue option; otherwise use a foreigner-facing booking platform or ask your hotel.
5. You are trying to solve a phone-only reservation
Passport verification applies to supported NAVER services. It cannot convert a restaurant that accepts reservations only by phone into an online booking. Hotel staff commonly make a simple call for guests; Instagram direct messages and walk-ins before the dinner rush are other practical options.

Important: The physical Climate Card costs KRW 3,000 separately. A short-term pass starts on the day you load it and cannot be loaded in advance. If you load a 1-day pass at 8 p.m., it still expires after the final service that same calendar day—not 24 hours later.
The break-even test I use for visiting friends
A normal short urban ride is often around the mid-KRW 1,000 range, but the actual fare changes by transport type and distance. Instead of pretending there is one perfect ride count, use this quick test:
Write down every subway or bus leg for the pass period. A transfer is not automatically a new paid ride.
Cross out the routes the Climate Card excludes.
Add the ordinary T-money fares for the remaining eligible legs.
Compare that total with the pass price plus KRW 3,000 if you still need the physical card.
Realistic example: A first-time visitor staying in Myeongdong who makes hotel → Gyeongbokgung → Seongsu → Hongdae → hotel may tap several times in one day. A three-day pass can make sense if that pattern repeats. A traveler doing Seoul → Suwon on day two and Seoul → Busan on day three is usually better served by T-money for local rides and separate rail tickets.

How to buy and load the Climate Card in 2026
Find a new vending machine inside a Seoul Metro Lines 1–8 station, or an authorized nearby seller.

Pay at a supported machine. Since March 17, 2026, international Visa/Mastercard and supported mobile payments are accepted at 440 new machines in 273 stations on Lines 1–8. International-card payments carry an average fee of about 3.7%.
Tap both when entering and leaving. Two missed exit taps can suspend use for 24 hours.
Local backup: Keep a small amount of Korean cash and a regular T-money card if your itinerary includes uncertain routes. Do not wait until a busy gate to discover that a pass or foreign card is not accepted.

Can I use the Climate Card from Incheon Airport to Seoul?
No. You cannot board the AREX at Incheon Airport T1 or T2 with the Climate Card. Use T-money, a single ticket, or the AREX Express/airport bus. The Climate Card’s special airport rule is for exiting at T1/T2 after boarding in the covered area.
Can I use T-money in Busan?
Yes, standard T-money is widely accepted on Busan public transport. The Seoul Climate Card is not a nationwide pass.
Can a foreign tourist pay by credit card?
For Climate Card short-term passes, supported new vending machines now accept international cards. Acceptance is not the same for every T-money purchase or reload point, so keep cash as backup.
Does the Climate Card cover the airport bus?
No. Intercity and airport buses are excluded.
Can I load a Climate Card before my trip begins?
Not for the short-term tourist pass. Its validity starts on the loading date, so load it on the morning of the first day you will use it.
Local answer: One normal T-money card can cover most everyday subway and city-bus trips in Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju, and other major Korean cities. It also works on the AREX all-stop train and many taxis and partner stores. It is not a reserved ticket for KTX/SRT, the AREX Express Train, or every airport/intercity bus.
Look for the T-money logo and tap the same card at both ends of the trip.
The airport question in one line: T-money works on the AREX all-stop train. The nonstop AREX Express Train is a separate reserved-seat ticket. If a machine asks you to choose a train and seat, you are not making an ordinary T-money tap.

Can I use Seoul T-money in Busan?
Yes. You do not need to buy a second card just because you leave Seoul. A standard T-money card is interoperable with major local transit networks, including Busan subway and city buses. Keep enough balance because the fare and transfer rules follow Busan’s system, not Seoul’s.

Tap at the entrance and exit with the exact same physical card or mobile token. If you enter with your phone and try to exit with plastic T-money, the system sees two unrelated cards. At a rejected gate, press the intercom instead of following another passenger.
Bus: tap off even when others rush
On city buses, tap once when boarding and once before getting off. The exit tap can affect distance fares and transfer discounts. If you pay for two people on one card, tell the driver before tapping; the second traveler usually cannot rely on the same transfer benefit in the same way as an individual card.
Local habit: Give each traveler their own card. It prevents confusion at subway gates and keeps every person’s transfer record separate.
Taxi: confirm before the ride
Many Korean taxis have a card terminal that can accept T-money, but do not make it your only late-night payment method. Ask “티머니 돼요?” (Does T-money work?) before departure and keep a credit card or cash backup.
Convenience stores: payment is not the same as reload
You can often pay at affiliated convenience stores with stored T-money value. A branch that accepts payment may have different reload or refund capabilities. Show the card and ask “티머니로 결제할게요” (I’ll pay with T-money). For a small final balance, split payment may be easier than a refund.

Can two people share one T-money card?
For subway gates, each traveler needs a separate card because every entry needs its own matching exit. On some buses, a driver can set multiple passengers before one tap, but individual cards are far simpler for transfers.
Does T-money work on the Shinbundang Line?
Standard T-money does. The confusion comes from the Seoul Climate Card, which excludes the Shinbundang Line.
Can I use it after several years?
Standard cards and balances are generally long-lived if the card still works. Check the balance before relying on an old card.
Local answer: Stop tapping repeatedly. Take the T-money card out of your wallet, move your phone and other cards away, and tap one card flat on the reader. If the gate still stays closed, press the help button or go to the station office—staff can read the last entry/exit record and fix an incomplete trip.
One clean tap tells you more than five fast taps.
At a closed gate: Do not jump the barrier or squeeze behind another passenger. It can create a second error and looks like fare evasion. Use the intercom or show your card to staff.

1. Eliminate card clash
A wallet can contain several contactless chips: T-money, credit cards, hotel key cards, and a phone wallet. The gate may read the wrong one or none reliably. Take the T-money card out, hold it flat over the marked sensor for about one second, and wait for the sound/display before moving.
If you use Mobile Tmoney, do not keep another transit app or physical card pressed against the phone. Use one payment method consistently for the whole trip so the entry and exit are written to the same card.
2. Check the balance—but do not reload blindly
Use a subway reload machine or ask a convenience-store clerk to check the balance. If the display says insufficient balance, reload the same card and try again. If the message says you already entered or cannot exit, adding money may not fix it; staff must correct the incomplete trip first.

3. Fix an incomplete subway trip
This often happens when you tapped at the wrong side of a gate, turned back after entering, or the exit tap did not register. Go to the station office or press the gate intercom. Show the exact card you used. Staff can inspect its last record, adjust the fare if required, and restore the correct entry/exit status.
If you accidentally used a credit card or phone at entry and T-money at exit, tell staff. The system sees two different payment tokens, not one journey.
4. If the card failed on a bus
Boarding failed: separate the card and try one clean tap; if the balance is low, pay another accepted way.
You forgot to tap off: a transfer discount may be lost or an additional fare can apply later.
You tapped twice: tell the driver immediately when safe. Do not keep tapping to “cancel” it yourself.
Changing buses: use the same card for every leg.
5. Double charge or wrong fare
First distinguish a real double charge from the screen showing a balance, transfer, or distance adjustment. Save the card, time, station/bus number, and any receipt. At a subway, ask staff immediately while the trip record is fresh. For a later dispute, contact Tmoney customer service with the transaction details.
Do not assume every repeated beep means two fares. Repeated tapping can also toggle or confuse the recorded state, which is why staff inspection is safer.
6. Physical card damage
If the card gives no response at several readers after you remove it from the wallet, its internal antenna may be damaged. Bending, punching a hole, cutting, or severe cracking can break the loop inside. Take it to a staffed service point. A damaged card with an unreadable chip may require a separate process rather than instant transfer or cash refund.
7. “It works on the subway but not here”
T-money is widely accepted, but not every ticket product or route is the same. The AREX Express, KTX/SRT seat reservations, some airport/intercity services, and special passes can require a separate ticket even when ordinary local transit accepts T-money. For the Climate Card, the Shinbundang Line and routes outside the official service area are common traps.
8. A free promotional card may not be standard T-money
If a subway kiosk cannot read a card you received from a retailer, hotel, event, or giveaway, check the card and leaflet for the actual T-money logo and the issuer's reload instructions. Some promotional discount cards resemble a transit card but may be reloadable only through the issuing retailer—or may no longer include an active transit function.
Fast test: Ask a staffed subway office or convenience store to identify the card. If several standard T-money readers cannot recognize it, stop trying to load it and buy a normal T-money card instead.

Will a low balance block me from exiting?
The gate may require a fare adjustment. Use the fare-adjustment/reload machine or ask staff; do not try another person’s card.

The official tourist guide still mentions MINISTOP, but many former MINISTOP locations have changed brands. Do not make a special trip to an old map result; try a currently operating CU, emart24, GS25, 7-Eleven, or staffed subway center instead.
What money do you actually get back?
Refundable: unused value stored on a normal T-money card, subject to the channel’s rules and limit.
Usually deducted: a small processing fee may apply. Confirm the amount before the transaction.
Not normally refundable: the price you paid for the physical card or a character design.
Different product: Climate Card, Mpass, WOWPASS, single-journey tickets, and promotional products follow their own rules.
Common misunderstanding: If you paid KRW 4,000 for the card and loaded KRW 20,000, the stored balance is KRW 20,000. The KRW 4,000 card purchase price is not part of that balance.
Step-by-step: the easiest refund route
Check the balance. Tap at a subway reload machine or ask a convenience-store clerk.
Choose a place with the right ceiling. Do not take a KRW 28,000 balance to a channel capped around KRW 20,000.
Bring the physical card. A photo, receipt, or card number is not a substitute.
Ask for a balance refund. The useful Korean phrase is “티머니 잔액 환불 가능해요?” (T-money janaek hwanbul ganeunghaeyo? / Can you refund my T-money balance?).
Confirm the fee and cash amount. Count it before leaving the counter.
What if the card is damaged?
A cracked, bent, or unreadable card may not be refunded instantly because the balance cannot be verified at the terminal. Take it to a staffed Tmoney service point rather than repeatedly trying small convenience stores. Keep any purchase receipt, but do not assume it guarantees an immediate cash refund.
What if I lost the card?
An ordinary anonymous physical T-money card works like cash. If it is lost and was not protected through a registered service, the balance is generally difficult or impossible to recover. This is why I recommend loading KRW 10,000–20,000 at a time instead of putting your entire transport budget on one anonymous card.
Can I refund T-money at Incheon Airport?
Do not rely on finding a convenient airport refund counter at the last minute. Airport retailers may sell or reload cards without processing balance refunds, and service availability can change. My safer local plan is:
Spend most of the balance at a T-money partner convenience store in Seoul.
Refund the remainder at a participating store or staffed subway station before taking the airport train or bus.
Keep enough balance for your final AREX all-stop trip if you are paying with T-money.

You do not need to find one single “official airport counter.” Standard T-money cards are commonly sold through participating convenience stores, so the practical approach is to use a store in the terminal that is open when you arrive. Show the cashier the words “T-money card” if pronunciation is difficult.
Before paying, confirm three things:
Is this the standard reusable T-money card? Airport stores may display several travel cards and passes.
How much is the card itself? The Korea Tourism Organization currently lists ordinary card prices in roughly the KRW 3,000–5,000 range, depending on the product and design.
How much value will be loaded? The card purchase price and the stored balance are separate.
